The task Force teams, consisting of officials from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, have identified nearly 120 unauthorised buildings and structures in different parts of the city.
The teams on Tuesday checked the records of the Nellore Municipal Corporation Town Planning Department and also visited the sites to earmark the structures for taking up demolition.
With the available staff and manpower, the Task Force teams had already taken up demolition and about 20 illegal structures were demolished.
Despite objections raised by owners of the buildings and the public at some places, the civic officials went ahead with the exercise.
The Task Force team arrived here under the leadership of town and country planning director Raghunath on the instructions of Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana.
Sequel to ACB raids
The searches and building enquiries were taken up in the wake of raids by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on the municipal officials during the past three months.
The recent incident of an assistant town planning officer getting caught accepting Rs. 50,000 cast a shadow on the municipal corporation activities.
The Task Force teams are specifically targeting the buildings which came up without following the sanctioned plan.
The demolitions are expected to continue for the next few days wherever there are no provisions for parking and setbacks as per the building guidelines.
