Two live landmines suspected to be planted by Maoists and electronic detonators were recovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from Lamtaput area of Koraput district in Odisha on Tuesday.
According to police sources, a troupe of paramilitary forces of 143 Battalion of the BSF were involved in combing operation when they stumbled upon these two landmines, planted under a culvert on Jeypore-Lamtaput road near Kadama village. Apart from it security personnel also recovered a pack of 22 electronic detonators and a bundle of flexible wire used to detonate landmines as well as a country made gun from the spot. Bomb disposal squad of the BSF diffused both the landmines. Combing operation against Maoists has been intensified in the area following discovery of these Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), which were suspected to planted by ultras to target security forces.
It may be noted that on Monday BSF personnel had recovered two landmines, each weighing five kilogram, 24 gelatine sticks, 20 electronic detonators, battery, flexible wire and other materials used to make IEDs from Boipariguda area. Basing on an intelligence report BSF personnel had unearthed these from under a culvert on Tanginiguda-Dasmantpur road.
