PANAJI: Four cyclists from Agra are on an expedition from
Kanyakumari to the highest motorable road on the planet in
Khardung La, Leh. Pedalling at 20-25km per hour with almost 20kg of luggage on their carriers,
Vikramjit Randhawa, 24, Saransh Goswami, 22, Suchitra Singh, 26, and Manoj Sharma, 25, travel 120km daily, spreading information and encouraging people to donate their organs.
The quartet started their journey on June 17 with the aim of reaching Khardung La on World Organ Donation Day, August 13, after which they will pledge to donate their organs.
They arrived in Goa on Tuesday and will resume their drive on Wednesday morning.
Apart from their bicycle kits, which have been sponsored, they haven’t accepted any freebies. “We decided to use our zeal for adventure to help support a cause. Each of us saved some money and pooled in for this journey. ,” Randhawa, who is pursuing his masters in social work from
Agra University, said.
Saransh Goswami, who left his job for this journey explained, “When somebody dies, the body is destroyed. But, the organs inside it can give a new lease on life to more than one person.”
So far, the four young men have spread awareness on organ donation in 10 schools and colleges in
Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
