Newport Coast resident Annelise Bui, a junior at Corona del Mar High School this past school year, was selected to start college a year early as one of 18 students nationwide to participate in the Resident Honors Program at USC, starting in the fall.

Annelise was awarded the Deans Scholarship from USC and will be enrolled in the school’s Thematic Option Honors Program, an interdisciplinary general education curriculum.

She plans to start her major studies in biological sciences on a pre-medical track in USC’s Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, according to a news release.

The Resident Honors Program is for students who want to start college instead of staying in high school for their senior year. Applicants are expected to have a record of success in high school Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses, along with summer programs and leadership experience.

Annelise received the gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award four times for volunteering at Hoag Hospital and serving as a board member for Corona del Mar High’s Doctors of Tomorrow club and YEP for Kids, which promotes science, technology, engineering and math education.

She also has been an honorary coach of UC Irvine’s health and science enrichment programs, Most Valuable Player of Corona del Mar’s junior varsity girls’ tennis team and a player on the varsity tennis team.

As a musician, she has won eight international piano competitions.
