No Basit at RSS’s Muslim front's Iftaar

Irked by Pak High Commissioner Abdul Basit’s casual response on the Pampore attack, RSS’s Muslim Rashtriya Morcha front has decided to withhold its Iftaar invite to him.

“I was to personally go and invite Basit saab. We had only sent them an invite by mail. But now, we will not go,” said Mohd Afzal, national convenor of the MRM.

When asked for a comment on the ambush, Basit had reportedly said, “Let’s enjoy the Iftaar party.”

Afzal said envoys of major Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Qatar and Bangladesh have all confirmed their participation in the Iftaar on July 2. “Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will be attending it.”

At the same time, he admitted that Pakistani officials did not attend the dinner last year. “Though my colleagues and I attended Pak foundation day on March 23 last year, the high commission did not reciprocate to our invite.”

The Pakistan High Commission said they never received any invitation from MRM. “We have received no invite. There is nothing by mail either.

Unless there is an invitation, it cannot be withdrawn,” said spokesperson Mansoor Ali Memon.

Memon said MRM was creating a lot of fuss about something “petty” just to draw attention. “This whole fuss about withdrawing the invitation is a petty trick.”

About Basit’s reported comment on the Pampore incident, he said, “There was lot of misreporting that day. Someone gatecrashed and started asking questions about the (Pampore) incident.

What does the High Commissioner do who is in the mid of hosting iftaar for over 200 people do?”
