Kaushik misused public money: Cong

The Congress today levelled allegations of corruption and misuse of power against Haridwar city legislator Madan Kaushik.

Congress mahanagar unit president Anshul Shrikunj, while addressing mediapersons here today, alleged Kaushik provided benefits to his relatives and close aides through his MLA LAD funds and also when he was Urban Development Minister.

Anshul said the income of some of Kaushik’s relatives had increased manifold in the past 15 years after he became a legislator. Soon he would produce valid papers to expose the misuse of public money and power by Kaushik. “We have got vital information about movable and immovable properties of Kaushik’s relatives and aides who were allotted tenders and government contracts during the last 15 years. Without corruption no project is cleared and several government and municipal corporation land and properties are being transferred in the names of Kaushik’s relatives,” said Anshul.

Anshul added the previous UPA government at the Centre had granted Rs 755 crore to the BJP-led state government for Maha Kumbh in 2010 but in comparison much less development works were carried out during Ardh Kumbh.

“The Kumbh scam report should be made public so that people could know about the main culprits. Madan Kaushik has been winning elections by using money and power but now we will expose his wrongdoings. In July, we will be holding street shows to expose the corrupt face of the legislator,” said Anshul.

Senior Congress leader OP Chauhan added that in the last 15 years no sewer line had been fully laid in the entire city though a large sum of money had been allocated under the Kumbh grant and the Namami Gange project for the city.

“Madan Kaushik has failed to provide basic infrastructure and amenities in his Assembly segment. Millions arrive in Haridwar every month yet the basic civic amenities are weak compared to in other cities. He has been bring labourers, slum dwellers and poor people from neighboring Uttar Pradesh districts by getting their fake voter’s identity cards made and winning elections,” said Chauhan.
