Kids don’t come with an instruction manual. But if they did, it would probably say something about not throwing them off cliffs. It’s advice someone in the life of 9-year-old Louis Drax could certainly have used—but who? The trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Liz Jensen’s novel from High Tension director Alexandre Aja asks the question but doesn’t give a clear answer. Is it his violent father, played by Aaron Paul? His mysterious mother, played by Sarah Gadon? Or even his doctor, Jamie Dornan, who probably has unconventional desires? And where does that weird sea monster thing fit into the equation? And was that Oliver Platt?
The answer won’t be clear until the film is released or we read the book, but Slate is calling it early anyway: It was Aaron Paul. That guy is always up to something. Or is he? (He is.)
