Vice chairperson of State Disaster Management Authority Rajinder Rana today directed the district administration to make necessary arrangements well in advance of the monsoon season to deal with any unforeseen situation.

Addressing the media here today, he said, “I directed the Public Works Department, Irrigation and Public Health and National Highways Authority of India to identify disaster-prone areas in advance so that in time of need, help could be provided immediately to deal with the situation.” He asked the district administration to run a 24-hour toll free helpline number service at district and sub division level during the ongoing rainy season so that the people can contact them round the clock.

The district administration has been advised to display sign boards, including helpline numbers, at river side to warn tourists to refrain from venturing in the rivers to avoid any untoward incident, he added.

Hamirpur: Speaking here on Monday, Rana said the state was prepared to handle disasters in the monsoon season and committees to monitor sensitive areas had been constituted. Vice chairman of Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (HPDMA) said disaster management monitoring would be on a high alert.
