Ludacris is playing Guantanamo Bay on the Fourth of July

Ludacris is headed to Cuba. Not the newly opened, culturally rich island that Americans can now visit. No, Luda is going to roll out to the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay and play a show for the 6,000 people who live on the base best known as the home of 89 war-on terror detainees.

According to the Miami Herald, the rapper will play a free show for the troops, Department of Defense contractors and Navy families who live there as part of the annual "Freedom Festival" at Guantanamo's Windward Ferry Landing, which is miles away from the locked-down detention center zone that houses the prisoners.

In previous years Magic! and Jimmy Eat World have played the gig and Plain White T's just performed on the Landing (basically a parking lot) in October. "Every year we get a special guest around the Fourth of July, but Gitmo hasn't seen a star with as big a name as Ludacris in several years," Navy Chief Monique Hilley told the paper. "The base is really looking forward to it."

Luda hasn't been talking about the show, but he has been posting behind-the-scenes pics from the set of the Fast & Furious 8 set; in April the movie's producers said they will be the "first Hollywood studio movie to film on the island post-embargo."
