Hundreds pay homage to CRPF SI killed in Kashmir

CRPF sub-inspector Jayachandran Nair, who was killed in terror attack in Kashmir, was cremated at his village in Palode outside the city with state and military honours on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram: CRPF sub-inspector Jayachandran Nair, who was killed in terror attack in Kashmir, was cremated at his village in Palode outside the city with state and military honours on Monday. Forest minister K Raju paid his last respects to the sub-inspector, representing the state.
His mortal remains were brought here in an Air India flight on Sunday night.
CRPF officials received the coffin and gave him a guard of honour at the airport. Hundreds paid their last respects to the martyr at the airport and later at his village on Monday. This include Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi, power minister Kadakampally Surendran, MP A Sampath and DGP Loknath Behera. Jayachandran leaves behind wife Sindhu Kumari and daughters Sneha and Sruthi.
Jayachandran, who joined the CRPF as an 18-year-old in 1983, was now serving as sub-inspector in the 161-battalion. The tragedy struck him when he was waiting to get relieved from the service after filing VRS application.
Jayachandran, who had been working in Jammu&Kashmir for over four years, visited his home on a month's leave last month. He had constructed a new home at Kallippara recently.
Tragedy struck Jayachandran and team when the CRPF personnel were returning from a firing practice in Lathpora when their six-vehicle convoy was fired upon on the highway on the outskirts of Srinagar. Eight CRPF personnel were killed and 22 injured in the attack happened at Pampore on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Pulwama district on Saturday evening. The two Lashkar militants were later gunned down.
