Last Saturday our girls took on Cabonne at home. The girls who took the field for Grenfell were Jade Douglass, Annie Nealon, Amelia Donnelly, Linda Hucker, Alyssa Heathcote, Lily Holmes, Megan Wilson, Taylor Keppie, Holli Madgwick, Emily Edwards, Charlie O'Byrne and Teleitha O'Byrne.
Cabonne kicked off and Linda received the ball making a good run straight up, then after some quick hands Holli, went over for our first try during the first set. Great passing and defending by our girls lead to Holli going over for another try. The girls were showing great teamwork with tagging Cabonne all over the park in the first half. With the momentum high Holli was still a lead foot and went over for her third try within the minutes of starting the second half and this was followed up by a successful kick by Lily. The girls kept up their fantastic attack and defense, which lead to Emily then going over for her first try. Cabonne then ramped up and got the ball and took off, but was chased down by Lily just shy of their try line, but Cabonne kept hustling and made it over the line. Well done to our girls for their great effort though. Megan put in a good kick and Cabonne knocked on so we got the ball back but we couldn't finish it off. Grenfell kept Cabonne out for the next few sets and made the most of the tiring Cabonne side because Lily went over for our final try. Well done to all the girls for putting in a great effort on Saturday. Your game was strong all round and you played beautifully as a team. The final score was Grenfell 22 to Cabonne 8.
This was Grenfell's first game against a new team in the competition this season, which is Parkes. Our girls started strong with great passing and running of the ball. Defensively they were also strong with great tagging by our Megan, Emily, Holli and Lily. Within minutes of the starting whistle Lily went over for our first try, which she also converted closely followed by another try by Holli, who also successfully converted. The girls continued their good attack and Linda was unfortunate to knock-on after being tagged to the ground as the velcro is still very strong and doesn't come off, but our defence remained strong. Holli got the ball again and she carved up the field with a tremendous run to score her second try. Parkes then came back with their first try of the game. Lily then showed her prowess down at our try line as she too was tagged to the ground, then again a few balls later, tripped over her own feet and never once dropped the ball. Well done Lil. Issy then got the ball and went over for a convincing try. Great work was being done in both defence and attack by our younger girls, who are Jade, Annie, Alyssa, Amelia and Phoebe. They are really starting to show confidence and growth in their game. Well done girls. Half time score was 6-20. Again a great start in defence with great ball skills shown by Emily but unfortunately she fell just short of the try line. Linda scooped up a dropped ball with great skill, but unfortunately Teleitha was pulled to the ground resulting in a turnover. Grenfell made the most of it one set later when Lily scored her second try of the game and Annie did a fantastic job kicking the conversion. Well done Annie because it was really close. The girls continued to be strong across our defensive line with great running by Teleitha, Charlie and Holli, but Lilly did a standout across field chase down of a Parkes player resulting in her being tagged just short of her try line. The girls couldn't keep Parkes out because they went over for their second try. With five minutes to go Grenfell were starting to tire until Holli picked up momentum for the team and went over for her third try of the game. Marley did a great run on the final siren to end the game. Well done Marley on your fantastic game. Final score was Parkes 12 to Grenfell 28.
