Scotland, on Monday (June 27), named a 13-man squad to take on Afghanistan in a two-match One-Day International (ODI) series in July. While the core of the side from the ICC World Twenty20 was retained, Craig Wallace, the wicketkeeper-batsman, and Brad Wheal, the paceman, were recalled, and uncapped 21-year-old all-rounder Ruaidhri Smith was added.

Smith has appeared in 14 first-class matches, with returns of 28 wickets and 260 runs at an average of 20. Wheal, who made his debut against Hong Kong in January, returns to the side, as does Wallace, who last featured for Scotland against Ireland in June 2015. His only ODI, however, was against Canada in July, 2012 where he made heavy gains behind the stumps with a catch, a stumping, and assisted in three run outs.

"After a lean period of national fixtures, the squad are looking forward to coming together for the first time since the ICC World T20," Grant Bradburn, Scotland's head coach, said. "Despite some local and county players being unavailable for consideration for this series, we have brought together a very strong, exciting side on the back of impressive individual performances in domestic, regional and county cricket."

Preston Mommsen is set to lead the side, while Kyle Coetzer serves as his deputy. Scotland will take on Afghanistan in the two ODIs scheduled for July 4 and July 6 at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh.

Afghanistan named a full-strength squad for the ODIs with as many as 12 from the WT20 squad. Javed Ahmadi and Rahmat Shah earned recalls, while Nawroz Mangal, the former captain was left out.

Post the Scotland challenge, Afghanistan will travel to Ireland for a five-match ODI series before their Intercontinental Cup clash against Netherlands, starting July 29 in Voorburg.
