TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I expects Yogyakarta New International Airport worth Rp9.3 trillion to begin construction next year and start to operate by 2020.
Director for Finance and Information, PT Angkasa Pura I, Novrihandri said that the construction was still being discussed, after the appraisal of land to be used for the airport.
“It might be still being negotiated until the end of Eid al-Fitr. [Based on] provisional estimates, the appraisal results show that the land is worth Rp4 trillion. We certainly are preparing the funds,” he said in Jakarta, Monday, June 27, 2016.
Novrihandri added that the payment for land acquisition will be carried out in August 2016. Thereafter, the state-owned company will prepare detail engineering design (DED), environmental impact assessment, etc.
“We hope that the construction can be started soon since the people have been waiting for the airport. We will certainly carry out all bureaucratic process and regulations,” he said.
He considered that the marketplace of airline users in Yogyakarta is substantial. However, the capacity of the current airport, Adisucipto Airport Yogyakarta, is limited, which hampers the service.
A number of airlines are also having difficulties to add both flight frequency and new routes from and to Yogyakarta. Therefore, he is optimistic that his company will profit from the construction of New Yogyakarta International Airport.
New Yogyakarta International Airport will have a capacity of 15 million passengers per year, or 41,000 passengers per day with 300 flights per day.
