In Thanjavur, the front side of the Old Bus Stand is congested because of several shops located there. People find it difficult to move around and cross over due to the continuous movement of vehicles. The corporation could construct a subway between Thanjavur old bus stand and Thiruvaiyaru bus stop for public safety. This will reduce congestion in front the old bus stand.

Toilet doors,

roof stolen

As part of Mahamagam festival this year, the Tamil Nadu Government had built public toilets on the roadside. The toilets being built at three places between Thippirajapuram and Kumbakonam on the Kumbakonam-Mannargudi Highway had been badly damaged within three months. The overhead fibre sheets and the doors which metal sheets have been stolen.

Pond revived

The pond on the way to Manojipatti near the Medical College main entrance was under disuse. Several years ago, the pond was full of water during rainy season and the collection of rainwater helped maintain the water level of the surrounding areas. Now, the pond has been cleared of the weeds and garbage, steps have been taken by the Fisheries Department to revive it. Hope this will help in recharging groundwater and maintenance of the surroundings.

Adiramapattinam

needs a stadium

Irrespective of the age-group, the people of Adirampattinam and surrounding patronise sports. Tournaments are organised annually by the voluntary groups in cricket, football and volleyball. A large number of school and college students participate in these tournaments. Unfortunately, they do not get proper recognition because of lack of support from the Government. Hence, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) might consider setting up a multipurpose stadium with coaching facilities in Adirampattinam so that the sporting talents can be fine-tuned.

Bus service

A mini bus service between bus stand to Puliampettai via Annai Anjugam Nagar and Ganesha Nagar is supposed to operate five trips a day. But only two trips are run, one each in the morning and evening. The other trips are operated via the Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai Main Road. The authorities concerned should ensure the operation of all the trips.

Expensive affair

Solid waste is detrimental to environmental health. Managing solid waste is proving to be an expensive affair. Instead of using it for wealth creation, we are considering it as a heavy burden. If the waste is collected and used for vermiculture, it will be useful for enriching the soil and wealth creation. The people of Tiruchi must adopt innovative and environment-friendly approach to make it the cleanest city.

Instil fear of law

in auto drivers

Vantage points such as street corners are occupied by autorickshaw drivers. Idlers among them tease the passersby, especially women who wait for buses. Will the Commissioner of Police crack the whip and evict these autorickshaw drivers and prevent harassment of women?

Plant Basil

saplings

Basil (Tulsi) has many medicinal and environmental benefits in contrast to the Karuvelam trees which is uncongenial to our eco-system. The corporation should launch a campaign to plant Basil saplings.

Approach right

yoga guru

It has become fashionable to say “I do yoga” without cutting down on fatty foods and fried stuff in addition to the absence of other regular exercise such as walking. Taking advice of qualified yoga guru would do good to regulate the lifestyle and attain the benefits of yoga.

Remove hyacinth

from Cauvery bed

As the monsoon has set in, the authorities concerned can now come forward to remove the weeds on the Cauvery riverbed. Silt should also be removed. Letting out wastewater from the residential and nearby areas into the river should be prevented. Request the Public Works Department to do the needful at the earliest.
