Eighteen people were injured when a private bus coming from Adimali to Kothamangalam fell in to a 20-ft gorge near the Valara waterfalls on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi national highway on Monday around 12.30 p.m.

The police said a major accident was averted as the bus hit a tree, which prevented it from falling into a 100-ft gorge. They said all except two were given preliminary treatment and discharged. The driver, who sustained head injuries, and a woman, who fainted, were admitted to a hospital at Adimali. — A Correspondent
