Gandhinagar: Patidar reservation stir leader and Sardar Patel Group (SPG) president Lalji Patel met chief minister Anandiben Patel on Monday. Lalji was released from jail on bail last week. He was arrested for allegedly spreading violence in Mehsana during a rally.
Apart from Anandiben, Lalji and his aides met state BJP president Vijay Rupani and state health minister Nitin Patel in the state secretariat here.
The Patidar stir leaders requested the CM and Rupani to continue the 10% quota for the economically weaker sections (EWS) of the non-reserved category saying that it was beneficial for all such people including the Patidar community.
After meeting the CM, Lalji said that talks were positive with her about their demands for the Patidar community.
'I met Nitinbhai and Vijaybhai in Nitinbhai's chamber and then went to meet the chief minister in her office. I raised 29 points handed over as a list to the state government for resolution of quota stir on March 11 prior to the jail bharo agitation. I also said that the 10 % quota to the EWS, for which the state government issued an ordinance on May 1, was beneficial for the society and it should be allowed to continue,' he said, adding that the people including those from the Patidar community have started to take benefit from this arrangement.
