College of Dairy Science and Technology students resist security deposit

There are 40 seats each for dairy science in Pookode and Chettachal 40 seats for food technology in Thumboormuzhi.

THRISSUR: The move of the College of Dairy Science and Technology under Kerala Veterinary University to collect a security deposit of Rs 2 lakhs each from students getting admission is facing stiff resistance from students. The college had come up with such plan for improving facilities on its campuses in Pookode in Wayanad, Thumboormuzhi in Thrissur and Chettachal in Thiruvananthapuram.

But students say collecting such a big amount as a deposit for merit seats is against rules. Though it received the deposit from some students last year without mentioning the deposit on the website of Controller of Entrance Examination (CEE), for this academic year, it was clearly mentioned on the site.

There are 40 seats each for dairy science in Pookode and Chettachal 40 seats for food technology in Thumboormuzhi. But the students getting admission on Mannuthy campus in Thrissur with 60 seats are given exemption from the deposit. Dean Girish Verma said the teaching faculty is hopeful that Board of Management of the University which includes all top officials of the varsity and the legislators on the board would take a suitable decision at the next meeting on July 16.
