School secy held for disobeying HC orders
Nagpur: Taking the judiciary’s orders lightly proved costly for a secretary of a Buldhana-based education society. Ravi Munde was arrested by the police on Monday when he came to attend hearing of a contempt case at the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court. A non-bailable warrant was issued against Munde for not complying with the court orders related to the release of salaries of two teachers appointed by his society.
He was later released on condition to pay the arrears to the tune of 55 lakh to the two teachers within a week. The teachers, including Shilpa Kakde, had approached the judiciary for getting their salary dues which were not paid since their appointment in 2012.
According to the teachers, Mauli Education Society had approached the Maharashtra government for sanctioning two posts of teachers at its school. After the government’s nod, both petitioners were appointed by the society in 2012. However, when the government realized that the society allegedly used fraudulent means to prove the need to appoint these teachers, it refused to pay the salaries and asked the society to bear the expenses. As the society did not pay their salaries, the teachers moved court.
During the last hearing, the court had asked Mauli Education Society to pay the salaries and also asked its secretary to remain present before it. Munde, however, failed to attend the hearing on that date. When he finally arrived on Monday, the court ordered his arrest before letting him off after his assurance to pay the dues.
