PANAJI: Heavy rains lashed through the day across Goa on Monday with Mormugao, Quepem, Sanguem, Dabolim and Margao receiving the biggest share of the showers. The incessant rains saw trees come crashing down on structures at many places in the state.
Mormugao experienced 98mm of rainfall on Monday, followed by Quepem and Sanguem, where 88mm and 85mm of rainfall was recorded on Monday, respectively.

Margao and Dabolim were the other areas where over 80mm of rainfall was reported. The rain also saw the maximum temperature in Goa drop to 26.9 degree Celsius, which was three degrees below the usual temperature for the period.
The meteorological department has predicted that the intermittent rainfall will continue in Goa till June 30 and rain accompanied with thundershowers is expected to hit the state in the first week of July.
The capital city recorded a rainfall of 38mm on Monday. Panaji saw flooding at Campal and at several other spots on the D B Marg. The incessant rainfall also slowed down traffic movement, causing painful jams near the Panaji bus stand and Patto bridge, which are the entry points to the city.
The rains also saw fields being inundated with water in many areas, which kept farmers out of work on Monday. The constant rainfall on Monday kept personnel of the directorate of fire and emergency services busy. While a mango tree crashed onto a house in
Khairatvaddo in Camurlim, causing a damage of 50,000, a tree branch fell on a shop at Arambol, leading to damages worth 21,000.
At Pavanvaddo in Keri, a tree fell on a house and resulted in losses worth 5,000 and another tree crashed down in Siridao, but no damages were reported.
Two minor landslides near Goa Shipyard in Vasco and Ansabhat in Mapusa led to road blocks.
Even though the monsoon has just arrived in the state, Goa has already recorded over 950mm of rainfall, which is in surplus by around 150mm.
On Monday, the other areas which received significant amounts of rainfall are Canacona (67mm), Mapusa (55mm), Ponda (53mm), Old Goa (51mm) and Pernem (50mm).
In Bicholim, low-lying areas like Bandarwada, Gaonkarwada, market, Dhabdhaba Gauthan-Sakhali, Sonar Peth and near Chhatrapati Shivaji maidan Bicholim, Lamgao and other areas were flooded due to heavy rains causing hardships to people.
