CHENNAI: A 48-year old motorist died on Monday afternoon in a multiple collision involving an
MTC bus, scooter and a car at the subway near the
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Rajaji Salai .
Police said the driver of the MTC bus on route 6D (Tollgate-Thiruvanmiyur) lost control of the vehicle and rammed Saroj Kumar on his two-wheeler, who in turn smashed into a car in front of him.
Saroj Kumar was killed on the spot.
"The victim lost balance and fell down on the ground. He was bleeding from the head," said an investigating officer. Though he was wearing a helmet he suffered head injuries, he said, adding that he had not locked the helmet properly.
The Elephant Gate traffic investigation team took him to the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital and registered a case under
IPC section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence).
The MTC driver Saravanan was arrested.
Police said Saroj Kumar, a resident of Egmore, was on his way to a temple when the accident took place. He was in the textile business and is survived by his wife and 20-year-old twins.
