Muktsar, June 27

Congress activists under the leadership of local MLA Karan Kaur Brar blocked the road outside the Sadar Muktsar police station today. They demanded the arrest of those who had “assaulted” Congress activist Rajesh Kumar ‘Neeta’ (45), husband of a former sarpanch of Goneana village.

Neeta had suffered multiple fractures and a chest injury in the attack on June 11. He had alleged that a white Ritz car had hit his motorcycle and its occupants had hit him with iron rods.

The protesters alleged that though the police had registered a case, they were not arresting the accused. “We have even named a few persons responsible for the attack, but the police are yet to question them.

The police claimed to have arrested an accused, but he is not among those named by the victim,” said MLA Brar.

The protesters continued to block the road for about three hours till about 1.15 pm.

Later, Muktsar DSP Harmeek Singh Deol assured the Congress activists that the accused would be nabbed in the next two or three days, after which the dharna was lifted.
