The Miami Marlins took three of four from the Chicago Cubs over the weekend to improve to 41-35 on the season.

Rumor Central

Such a performance against a team considered to be the best in the league could have the Marlins getting more serious about being buyers at the trade deadline. Last week, Miami was linked to multiple starting pitchers, including the Tampa Bay Rays' Jake Odorizzi and San Diego Padres' Drew Pomeranz, as potential trade targets.

As for relief help, keep an eye on the New York Yankees' Aroldis Chapman and the Padres' Fernando Rodney.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, who cites sources, the Marlins have talked internally about dealing for Chapman or Rodney at the Aug. 1 deadline.

Chapman to Miami makes plenty of sense, as the 28-year-old hails from Cuba and would give the Marlins a dominant left-handed reliever, which they currently lack. Since returning from his early-season suspension, Chapman has a 2.70 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Meanwhile, Rodney is an intriguing target for many teams looking for relief help. The 39-year-old has allowed just one earned run in 28 2/3 innings this season.

Current Marlins closer A.J. Ramos is a perfect 24-for-24 in save opportunities this season, so acquiring another ninth-inning arm could bring about an interesting decision for the team to make regarding who closes.
