BHRC awards Rs 75,000 compensation to Sheohar man
Patna: The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) on Monday granted a compensation of Rs 75,000 to a Sheohar resident in a case pertaining to violation of human rights. Rajadih (Sheohar) resident Harendra Sah had filed a complaint with the commission, alleging that he was physically assaulted by one Ramashankar Sah on February 23, 2015 when he asked for his dues from the latter.
“A case was registered at Tariyani police station, but lighter sections were slapped against the accused in connivance with the local SHO and medical officer who reported that no external injury was found on the complainant’s body,” BHRC member Neelmani said.
The commission had sought a response from Sheohar SP, who constituted a medical board to probe the matter and reported that petitioner’s injury was “grievous” and his allegations that a wrong injury report was issued by the local doctor was established. “The Sheohar SP has already requested the civil surgeon to take action against the said doctor,” Neelmani said.
“A compensation of Rs 75,000 should be paid to the complainant by the state home department within two months and Sheohar SP should examine the criminal culpability of the accused doctor in issuing wrong injury report and take legal action accordingly,” Neelmani ruled. The commission has also asked the state health department to inform it about the administrative action taken against the doctor by August 31. The case is listed next on September 6.
