MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday
dismissed a public interest litigation (
PIL) which said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cannot prohibit the general public from taking pictures of its building. The court was told by petitioner Arul Selvan that the
RBI has no power to do so.
However, the judges said that the restrictions have been imposed as a measure for the safety and security of the central bank of the nation.
They questioned how the RBI’s security perception can be the subject of a PIL and how it can it be public interest.
“Is it public interest to say that not withstanding the security perception, people should be allowed to
click pictures?” asked Justice Oka.
The bench refrained from imposing heavy cost on Selvan.
