New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee’s three-day West Bengal tour has been postponed after medical advice to avoid travel in the heat. Mukherjee was scheduled to travel to Bengal on Monday.
Officials said that as many as 13 functions were scheduled between June 27-29, including launch of Akashvani Maitree on June 28. "They have all been postponed," the official said.
Sources said that the President was exhausted from his hectic travel plans.
"He has been asked to avoid travel in this heat and restrict himself to Delhi. It is exhaustion from his busy schedule," a source said.
The President was scheduled to inaugurate Akashvani Maitree — a unique radio service which can be heard in India as well as in Bangladesh. Mainly in Bengali, the service will provide a platform for content creation and common cultural heritage between the two countries.
Indian and Bangladeshi artistes like Usha Uthup, Soumitra Chatterjee, Rezwana Chaudhury Bannya and Shama Rahman were slotted to be part of the inaugural program.
