Two DTOs to be sent abroad to learn traffic management system
Chhapra: To give boost to the ‘Smart City’ project of Union government, two district transport officers (DTOs) from Bihar will be sent abroad to study and learn traffic management system and explore possibilities to adopt the same in the state. Out of the three countries selected by the government--Seoul in South Korea, Dubai in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore, the officers would be sent to any one of those.
From Bihar, DTOs of Saran and Supaul district-- Shyam Kishore and Vinay Kumar – respectively have been chosen by the state transport department for participation in the project.
The project is a combined initiative of Union government’s ministry of road transport and highways and ministry of urban development under which a team of 45 officials have been chosen from across the country to visit these countries where they will learn about the advance technology being used to control traffic along with management techniques.
Kishore said they will be first sent to Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University located in Ahmedabad for a basic training from July 15 to August 17. Later they would be sent to the selected countries in February next year in three separate teams.
“The initiative is a combined effort of the ministry of road transport and highway and ministry of urban development for the ambitious project Smart City project,” said the Supal DTO and added they are looking forward to learn the advanced technology being used in the world and later implementing in our own country and in Bihar also.
He said that their names were sent to the state’s transport department in April after which consent was given by the Centre. He, however, added that a final nod from chief minister’s office is also required before they could become part of the project. He also said that he has been promoted to ADM (additional district magistrate) rank and it is possible that some other officer would replace him for the project.
These officers have been selected at a point of time when the Rs 25 crore automated traffic management project installed in the state capital has failed miserably and has become a laughing stock for commuters as even with the traffic lights on, cops are deployed to manage the traffic manually.
