Video has emerged of intruders breaking into H2O at the Sugar Loaf Centre in Botha's Hill, Kwazulu-Natal. The alleged robbers were derailed by a chili pepper gas alarm, which forced them to flee the crime scene. Watch.
Owner of the store, Morné Bothma, says this isn't the first time his store has been broken into. "There was a break in on the 6th of May, they stole computers." After losing three computers and one television in the robbery last month, Bothma asked his security company, Compusafe Electronic Asset Security, to install a chili pepper gas alarm immediately.
In the video you can see three men arrive at the store on Thursday morning. After an unsuccessful attempt at cutting through the chains, they break their way through the glass door. When one of the men attempt to take the TV off the wall, he gets a face full of pepper spray.
The store quickly fills up with gas, and the intruders are forced to flee the store. The men attempt to enter the store again, but leave soon after empty-handed.
"It was money well spent," Bothma says of the newest addition to his security system.
Authorities in Kwazulu-Natal say the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
