If the BCCI has its way, a smaller version of the Indian Premier League could be held later this year.

The BCCI is considering hosting a mini IPL in September this year. The competition will be held outside India.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur said the dates and format of the mini IPL will be announced later. All eight IPL teams are expected to participate in a two-three week long championship.

It will fill up the slot that was reserved for the Champions League T20.

The CLT20 was shelved due to the lack of interest and sponsorship. The last edition was played in 2014.
