MHA assures realignment of fencing track in turbulent West Tripura

Agartala, Jun 27 (UNI) The Secretary, Border Management of Ministry of Home Affairs Susheel Kumar has assured realignment of wire fencing track, in most controversial part of West Tripura in Sonamura sub-division. The fencing work along about 10 kilometres stretch of border covering four minority infested villages of Sonamura were held up for more than 12 years following objection of the villagers. The villagers neither allowed to continue fencing inside 150 yards of borderline nor at zero line alleging that it would left them outside the fence, which to increase their owes further and made them unsecured. “We have been demanding realignment of fencing track to keep the villagers inside India and ensure adequate compensation and rehabilitation of the fence victim within Indian Territory. But was denied for long, as state government kept on saying that a project of Rs 91 crore for rehabilitation of the fence victim unresolved with the Centre,” said Mahmud Alam, a villager. He however, stated whenever, attempt of fencing without considering the demand of the villagers had been taken the people residing in the villages objected the move and that did not allow completing the fencing. During the visit of Susheel Kumar today in Sonamura, the villagers reiterated their longstanding demand of proper rehabilitation and realignment of the fencing track to ensure their safety and security. “I understand the sentiment of the people and their concern of security. Certainly I shall take up the issues at highest level to resolve the genuine grievances of the villagers, so that fencing should not create any hurdle for any Indian,” Kumar told media. He also pointed out that zero line fencing in a few stretches in Tripura was earlier allowed following demands of the state government and the business community. The zero line fencing has saved a large number of institutions, temples, mosques and markets of Tripura, which people accepted largely. Kumar had travelled along the extremely difficult hilly terrain in the eastern part of the state and saw the progress of Border Fencing and Border road. While at strategically located Khantalang BOP, he interacted with the BSF Field Commanders and Jawans who are doing yeoman service by guarding the inhospitable and difficult International Border. He briefed the Jawans to remain alert and vigilant while performing their duties and appreciated the efforts of BSF in protecting the work force of construction agencies in border area. He enquired about administration problems and found that drinking water is being supplied to the BOPs by water tanker. “The secretary, border management desired that the issues regarding supply of drinking water to the BOPs through pipe line be examined and resolved,” the BSF officials of Tripura Frontier stated. He directed all the agencies to complete the Border Fencing work by March 2017. He also desired that the issues regarding shifting of border population towards the homicide of the fencing be resolved amicably by state government and BSF by engaging people constructively.
