Kudos Victor Wanyama

The move allows Wanyama to play in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) league for the second time, having first participated in the league while playing for Scottish club Celtic, from where he moved to his immediate former team, Southampton, in 2013. Because this achievement has been solely on individual brilliance and hard work, Wanyama deserves commendation. His is an inspiring story for many Kenyan youths.

Of course, there are many Kenyan youths who would love to follow in Wanyama's footsteps, but their dreams may not be realised because of stringent rules that govern playing in the English Premier League, rather than lack of talent, which we have in abundance.

Principally because most renowned clubs in Europe sign on promising young players who can at least play for 10 years, the Kenya Football Federation must invest in a youth team. It is not for lack of talent that many players in our national team cannot find better deals abroad, it is the age factor.
