The government has re-appointed Jayanta Mitra, who had resigned on May 19, as the state advocate-general.A barrister, Mitra was first appointed by the Mamata Banerjee government in December 17, 2014.

Kolkata: The government has re-appointed Jayanta Mitra, who had resigned on May 19, as the state advocate-general.
A barrister, Mitra was first appointed by the Mamata Banerjee government in December 17, 2014. His appointment was preceded by several legal setbacks and the former A-G, Bimal Chatterjee, stepping down. An economics graduate from Presidency College, Mitra studied at the London School of Economics.
With a law degree from London University, he became a barrister from Middle Temple in 1963. He then joined the Calcutta bar and specialized in constitutional, arbitration, corporate and commercial laws. He became a senior advocate in 1987.
