BAHAWALNAGAR-The absence of security coupled with worst power outages at examination centre, has caused multifarious problems for Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) students, taking intermediate and graduation examinations.
The centre for AIOU examination has been established at Government Girls City High School here.
According to students, they are compelled to suffer a great ordeal due to power outage while taking papers at the examination centre as there is no alternative for power supply. They complained that there is no security arrangement besides poor seating facility. They said that due to the absence of power, they have to bring drinking water from their home and are compelled to consume hot water in the scorching heat. The student alleged that a 30-year-old male Naib Qasid has been assigned to invigilate the female students, adding that the students have to pay Rs50 for the safe custody of their books and cellphone to the same Naib Qasid.
On the other hand, school principal Abida Bukhari termed all the allegations baseless.
PROPOSED CATTLE MARKET POSE THREAT: The cattle market adjacent to Cantonment has been posing a security threat to residential areas and the public has demanded it relocation.
The residents of the area said that contractor mafia, after running illegal cattle market in Mandi Madrasa area, now allegedly greasing the palm of the Mandi Madrasa Police officials to establish the same cattle market adjacent to the Cantonment. Irony of the situation is that there is already a free of charge cattle market near Haider Stadium but the contractor mafia wants to establish the market near the Cantt, which poses a security threat to the residential areas.
When contacted, DCO Syed Haider Iqbal said that he has written a complaint to the DPO to take immediate action against the mafia which has not yet been responded.
DAILY-USE ITEMS’ AVAILABILITY Ordered: Availability of daily-use items at Ramazan bazaars is ordered to provide relief to the public.
Punjab Higher Education Department Secretary Tahir Yousaf visited Ramazan bazaars yesterday where he went round different stalls and inspected the availability of daily-use items. He expressed his displeasure over the unavailability of sugar, vegetables at the stalls and directed the officials concerned to ensure supply of the goods within 24 hours.
On the occasion, the citizens complained about overcharging at Ramazan bazaars, saying that there is no difference between prices in the open market and Ramazan bazaar. He assured the people of resolving their problems. He also asked the officials concerned to install walk-through gates at the exit and entry points of the bazaar.
