Coimbatore: A couple committed suicide by consuming poison as they were allegedly not happy with their son's mother-in-law staying at his house.
The couple took the extreme step on Saturday after visiting their son's house at Panapalaym village near Palladam in Tirupur district, three days back. Police said their son and his family, along with his mother-in-law, resided in a private textile company's quarters.

The deceased were identified as K Periyasamy, 50 and his wife P Kannagi, 45, both hailing from Thirukattupalli in Thanjavur district. Periyasamy owned a petty shop in his native village.
Police said his son P Manikandan, 28, along with his family moved to Palladam in Tirupur district a few years back and worked at Ganesha Sizing mill. The mill authority allotted a house for Manikandan.
Manikandan, his wife Vimala, 24, his daughter Lathika, 3 and his mother-in-law Padma, 45, were residing in the house.
On June 23, his parents came to Panapalayam and stayed with Manikandan. They told their son that he did not meet them for more than a year and advised him to meet them often in their native village. The couple could not bear the presence of Manikandan's mother-in-law in the house. They felt that their son was more concerned about his own family and mother-in-law than his parents.
Frustrated, Periyasamy and Kannagi went to sleep on Friday night. However, on Saturday morning they were found dead on the floor. Manikandan later came to know that they consumed poison and died. He immediately alerted Palladam police, who rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Palladam government hospital.
