Muthu Narayanasamy (25) of Mela Kadayanallur and A. Maharaja (30) of Muthusamiapuram, and Ismayil (25) and M. Sirajudeen (25), both from Vadakarai, collided head-on around 4.40 p.m. when one of the bikes was trying to overtake a van, which was going to Madurai from Courtallam.

The van driver lost control of the vehicle when he slammed the brake to avoid hitting the bikes. The van got dragged for some distance, skidded off the road and turned turtle. All the four bike riders were killed. Eleven occupants of the van were injured, and taken to a hospital in Madurai, sources said.
