TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed has inaugurated the operation of Sonar Bangla Express of Dhaka - Citagong route.
The event on Saturday, June 25, 2016, was attended by the President Director of state-owned rail company PT Industri Kereta Api Indonesia (Inka) Agus H Purnomo and some representatives of SOE Ministry and state-owned financial institution Exim Bank.
The carriages were made by Inka in its Madiun plant, East Java. “During the tender process, Inka beat several Chinese leading carriage manufacturers,” said Senior Manager Public Relations, PT Inka, M Colik in a statement, Sunday, June 26, 2016.
Bangladesh ordered 150 passenger carriages comprising of two types: 100 unit meter gauge carriages to operate on 1,000 mm gauge rails and 50 unit broad gauge carriages to operate on 1,676 mm gauge rails.
Colik expressed that PT Inka continues to expand its business in several countries in both Asia and the Middle East. Aside from supplying carriages to Bangladesh, Inka is aiming to export carriages to Vietnam, Srilanka and Egypt.
