Surat: Thirty-year-old Kalpesh Rathod, who was on the run after allegedly killing his married girlfriend's four-year-old son, was arrested on Sunday by Navsari town police.
The accused never used a phone so police had sounded out their informers. "We knew he would visit his residential area and also a place near the creek. Our informers were alert and we could nab him when he came home at 1.30pm on Sunday," police inspector A P Somaiya said.
Kalpesh has been charged under IPC sections 363,365, 302 and 201.
Kalpesh kidnapped his girlfriend Mona's son Ganesh and took him to the rivulet. He waited for Mona to come there. However, when she didn't come, he killed the child by banging his head with a stone. He then put the body in a plastic bag and flung it into Koyli Creek. Police have recovered the plastic bag from a spot under the bridge towards Mithila Nagari on Koyli Creek. The body was found on Friday.
Kaplesh had developed a relationship with Mona, who is married to Nakul when she came to stay with her mother in Navsari from Vapi. He had expressed his desire to live with her. However, she told him she can't elope with him. But he persisted with his demand and repeated it again on June 23, the fateful day. He fled with Ganesh hoping that Mona would follow. When she didn't come, he killed the child in anger, police said.
