Rajkot: At least seven persons were killed and around 15 injured in separate accidents reported from Rajkot, Jamnagar and Surendranagar districts since Saturday evening.
Three residents of Gandhidham town in Kutch died when their car plunged from a small bridge, some 5km from Dhrol town of Jamnagar district, on Saturday evening.
The deceased, who were travelling in a Maruti Ritz car, were identified as Arun Thakker, 32, Ghanshyam Goswami, 41 and Sureshgar Gosai, 35.
The trio had gone to Bhanvad town for some religious ritual on June 24 and were returning to Gandhidham.
Police suspect that the person who was driving the car may have dozed off. The car broke the canal's railing and plunged about 8-10 feet below.
In another accident, near Rajkot, two cars collided head-on near Sardhaar village on Saturday evening, leaving two persons dead. A Maruti Eeco van carrying about 15 passengers towards Sardhaar tried to overtake another vehicle but crashed into a Hyundai Accent coming from the opposite direction.
Those who died were identified as Vajuba Zala, 90, a native Neknaam village near Padadhari and Hadabhai Vaghela, 68, from Anandpar village. Zala was travelling in the Accent while Vaghela was in the Eeco, police said.
Two women also died in an accident when the bike they were going on crashed into a trailer near Malvan Chowkdi on the Dhrangadhra-Viramgam highway in Surendranagar district on Sunday morning. The deceased Meena Koli's husband was riding the bike taking her and two other women along.
