DAAD, IISER to host contest for scholars

PUNE: The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German House for Research and Innovation and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune are hosting the Falling Walls Lab in the country.
As many as 50 applicants who have applied to the DAAD will make a three-minute presentation on September 24 at IISER, Pune. The winner will showcase his/her presentation in the finale to be held in Berlin in November.
"Participants are expected to present their research project, business plan, entrepreneurial or social initiative that is relevant to the world today to a panel of eminent jury and general public," said Christoph Senft, honorary director, DAAD Information Centre Pune, at a press conference here on Friday.

Besides this, the Pune centre will also conduct the regular pre-departure session for outgoing students who secured admissions in German universities. Senft said the number of students going to Germany to study through their centre has increased from 60 in 2014 to 150 last year. The DAAD Pune centre has also organised a research proposal writing workshop on August 13 for students who wish to pursue PhD.
On September 3, another event has been organised to provide a general overview of study and research possibilities in Germany. On November 10, an Indo-German dialogue has been organised on excellence in research and education to be held at IISER, Pune.
