Chandigarh, June 26

Under the initiative “Run against Drugs”, OP Singh, IG, led hundreds of youths in the event organised in Sirsa today.

The run started from Town Park at 5.30 am and culminated at the same place after covering a distance of 4 km.

Addressing participants, the IG reiterated his resolve to intensify offensive against drug dealers. He said those involved in the drug trade and their patrons would be hunted down.

The IG asked his men and officers to come down heavily on drug smugglers and choke the supply line effectively. Sirsa is among the worst-affected districts of Haryana in the matter of narcotic trafficking due to its proximity to Rajasthan and Punjab.

The IG said those found aiding and abetting narcotic offenders would be booked under harsh sections of the NDPS Act. He said the police would continue with its mass contact and awareness programmes to turn youth against drugs.

SSP Satinder Kumar Gupta, SDM Paramjit Singh and several prominent persons from Sirsa participated in the event.
