Ponda: Dismantling of a small part of the false ceiling of Rajiv Kala Mandir at Ponda has led to politics in the town. A post on whatsapp (a social networking app), alleging that the ceiling had collapsed on its own, was viral in Ponda late on Thursday. The Kala Mandir has refuted the allegation.
The reconstructed Kala Mandir was inaugurated for the public on May 28 and soon its newly-installed false ceiling had started soaking up rainwater.
Many people questioned the quality of work as the problem had arisen within just a month of the inauguration.
When TOI visited the site, a large portion of the ceiling, which stood dismantled, was placed on the ground. Besides, its roof paint was peeling off.
Chairman of the Kala Mandir and Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar ruled out the report. He said that the part of the ceiling was removed by the contractor as it started absorbing rainwater.
“Some political aspirants tried to propagate the incident with a twist in the tale on social networking apps to get political mileage”, Mamledar said.
