Three drown in Wainganga river

Three youths including a teenager were drowned in Wainganga river near famous Lord Shiva temple in Markanda in Chamorshi tehsil of Gadchiroli on Sunday afternoon. Victims belong to Appalwar family in Mul (Chandrapur district) and their relatives Pathak family from Washim district. The two families had visited the famous temple in Markanda, also known as Vidarbha Ki Kashi, for veneration and during subsequent swimming the accident took place.

Chandrapur: Three youths including a teenager were drowned in Wainganga river near famous Lord Shiva temple in Markanda in Chamorshi tehsil of Gadchiroli on Sunday afternoon. Victims belong to Appalwar family in Mul (Chandrapur district) and their relatives Pathak family from Washim district. The two families had visited the famous temple in Markanda, also known as Vidarbha Ki Kashi, for veneration and during subsequent swimming the accident took place.
As per reports, Prashant Appalwar had taken his family members and his sister’s (Pathak) family to Markanda for darshan on Sunday. After performing puja and darshan, the two families then went to the bank of Wainganga river that flows adjacent to the temple. Three youths from the two families namely Ganesh Appalwar (13), Vaibhav Pathak (22) and his brother Ankush Pathak (20) — went into the river for swimming in the afternoon.
Sources claimed that while swimming all three of them went beyond the red flag marked as danger zone and drowned. The fishermen and other devotees who were looking from a distance shouted for help. But, before anybody could rush to their rescue all three drowned. Local fishermen later went into the river and fished out the bodies with the help of boats. Chamorshi police have registered a case of accidental death.
