Lucknow: Rebel
BSP leader
Swami Prasad Maurya sprang a surprise on Sunday evening when he refused to give his consent for selection of an information commissioner during his meeting with chief minister
Akhilesh Yadav.
Maurya, who met
Akhilesh Yadav at latter's 5-KD residence, said since his tenure as BSP legislature party leader is about to end, therefore, taking a decision on selection of an information commissioner or any other post "would not be proper".
"I may tender my resignation as BSP's leader of legislature party and leader of opposition on Monday,"
Maurya told TOI.
The development came amid BSP upping its ante over Maurya meeting with Akhilesh saying that the meeting was deemed to be "unauthorised".
Mayawati had on Saturday clarified that Maurya stopped being in the party since June 22 and was, therefore, not the legislature party leader and leader of opposition. BSP sources said Mayawati knew about the meeting between CM and Maurya to select an information commissioner and therefore gave a statement on Saturday. Later, the meeting was postponed for Sunday.
