A DAY after Samajwadi Party announced that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would take out ‘Samajwadi Vikas Rath Yatra’ in UP to showcase the achievements of his government, the state BJP on Sunday also decided to take out four such yatras in the state to highlight the achievements of the Modi government at the Centre.

Sources said that each of these four yatras, to begin from October, would cover at least 100 assembly constituencies and would be led by different leaders. In 2011, senior BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra and Rajnath Singh had taken out ‘Jan Swabhiman Yatra’ in the run up to the 2012 state polls. Both had concluded in Ayodhya.

When contacted, BJP state president Keshav Prasad Maurya said such an idea was discussed in the meeting of a newly formed 31-member committee of senior leaders but a detailed strategy would be decided later.

“The plan was discussed very superficially in the meeting today. It is yet to be decided who will lead these yatras. It is in the planning phase. But it is certain that party leaders, during these yatras, will speak about the achievements of the Modi government. It will also target the Akhilesh government on the law and order issue and BSP on corruption,” said a leader who was present in the meeting.

At the meeting, it was also decided to postpone the party state executive meeting to July 16 and 17 in Moradabad. Earlier, this meeting was scheduled to be held on July 9 and 10. Party national president Amit Shah is likely to address the meeting. “Dates of the state executive meet has been changed because all guesthouses, hotels and community centres in Moradabad were found booked around July 9 and 10 for weddings,” said a BJP leader.

Festive offer

Maurya, meanwhile, said district level training sessions would be organised for party workers and mandal unit leaders between July 20 to 30. Booth level workers’ conventions would be organised in every assembly constituency in August.
