The sacking of Pondicherry University Vice Chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy appears imminent with the HRD Ministry recommending her dismissal to President Pranab Mukherjee.
The recommendation for dismissal, rather than removal, means that she will not be able to join any other government-run university in any capacity. Had she been removed, she would have been eligible for employment in another university. She is accused of academic fraud. She allegedly holds a fake PhD degree.
In August 2015, a UGC probe against Krishnamurthy found her guilty of fraud and plagiarism following which the HRD Ministry issued her a show-cause notice and appointed Anisa B Khan as officiating VC.
If the President accepts the recommendation, Krishnamurthy will become the second central university VC to be dismissed during Smriti Irani’s tenure as HRD Minister.
