MUMBAI: The two men held for the Malwani triple murder had visited the house of the deceased woman, Babli Shaw, a week before the killings on June 22. The arrested woman, Shabana alias Anaam Shaikh (25), had got her live-in partner, Salman Tauffin (22), introducing him as a guest who wanted to check in.
Shabana often got customers to Shaw’s mezzanine floor guest house which was let out on an hourly basis.
However, Shabana did not tell Shaw that the two “guests” were known to her and were there for a “purpose” — to rob the house, but their robbery bid failed that day.
The couple roped in their friend, Salman Akbar (25), to help out in the robbery. On June 22, around midnight, Shabana got Tauffin and Akbar back to Shaw’s house as “guests”. Around 2am, they stabbed Shaw and the two kids to death. “They tried to break open the locker in which Shaw’s valuables were kept but abandoned the plan as Akbar had a knife injury on the hand while killing Shaw, said the police official.
They took a train to Ajmer from Borivli but got off at Valsad as Akbar passed out due to severe blood loss, said inspector Chimaji Adhav. — V Narayan
