Congress-free India foundation was laid during Emergency:Mukhtar

Lucknow, Jun 26(UNI) Hitting out at Congress for having a 'feudal' mindset, senior BJP leader and Union Minority welfare Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here today that foundation of “Congress-free India” was laid during Emergency because people joined hands to wipe out feudal mindset of Congress leaders.
“Congress governments which came to power after Emergency too worked with feudal mindset. Instead of learning a lesson from the emergency, the Congress repeated it, Naqvi said while addressing a programme organised on Emergency here.
Mr Naqvi said that emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was the biggest blot on Indian democracy. Democracy was throttled, fundamental rights of the people were violated and opposition leaders were put behind bars. The people, especially youths, took to the streets under the leadership of Jaiprakash Narain to protect democracy. Hundreds of people died in jails, there was height of cruelty and brutality against political opponents, he said.
