Terming the holy month of Ramadan as a month of blessings and auspiciousness, Hurriyat (M) Chairman and Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday said while this month impacts the physical, spiritual, existential, moral, outward and inward attributes of a person, it is also significant in the sense that various towering personalities passed away and many landmark and historic events occurred during this month.Delivering Waiz-e-Tableeg during the ‘Ten Days of Forgiveness’ of Ramadan at Masjid Farooqui, Lakripora Nowshera before the Asr prayers to an impressive religious gathering, the Mirwaiz said Khatoon-e-Jannat, Hazrat Fatima Zahra (RA) passed away on 3rd Ramadan; Umm-al-Momineen Hazrat Khadija-al-Qubra (RA) passed away on 10th Ramadan, and on the same date, Muhammad bin Qasim led Muslims to Fateh-e-Sindh (Conquest of Sindh), setting foot on the land of the Hind and thus bringing the wealth of Islam to the region; the Muslims despite being scarce in number defeated Kufaars of Makkah in the War of Badr on 17th Ramadan and on the same date Umm-al-Momineen Hazrat Aisha Sidiq (RA) also passed away; Fateh-e-Makkah (Conquest of Makkah) occurred on 20th Ramadan; Khulafa-e-Rashideen Hazrat Ali (RA) achieved martyrdom on 21st Ramadan and during the last five odd nights of the ‘Ten Days of Salvation’ was the holy book of Quran first revealed by the Almighty Allah to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from the heavenly skies through the Angel Gibreel (AS) to the earth with the revelations continuing for the next 23 years although most Ulemas believe that the night of the first revelation was 27th of Ramadan, which is observed as Lylat al-Qadr (The Night of Decree).

Stressing that besides benefiting from the blessings and auspiciousness of the holy month of Ramadan, he said every section of the society, a common Muslim, a businessman or a trader, a hotelier or a restaurant owner, all needed to respect the sanctity of the holy month.Hurriyat (M) Chairman said it was unfortunate that during this month people who do not fast openly have treat themselves to food and delicacies in certain hoteliers and restaurants, disrespecting the sanctity of the holy month which is neither in sync with the Muslim traditions nor has the approval of principles of morality.Stating that one of the lessons of the holy month of Ramadan was to protect the sanctity of the holy month in every respect, he said while people fast from dawn to dusk and stay away from wrongdoings and vices during this month, it was also necessary to ensure that the sanctity of the holy month is not disrespected, deliberately or otherwise.
