DMRC achieves tunnel breakthrough in South-West Delhi
The 400 metric ton Tunnel Boring Machine emerged at Najafgarh retrieval shaft near Tura Mandi site after making a 0.67 KM (555 rings) long tunnel from the site near Sai Baba Mandir of Najafgarh.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today achieved another tunnel breakthrough of Delhi Metro's Phase-III project in South-West Delhi by completing the tunneling on the under construction Dwarka-Najafgarh corridor (Line-9) in the presence of Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director/DMRC.
ANOTHER ENGINEERING LANDMARK FOR DMRC
The 400 metric ton Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) emerged at Najafgarh retrieval shaft near Tura Mandi site after making a 0.67 KM (555 rings) long tunnel from the site near Sai Baba Mandir of Najafgarh. At this point the elevated alignment coming from Dwarka goes underground through a ramp. The tunneling on this stretch began on 09th November 2015. The depth of the tunnel varies from 6.1 metre to 10.5 meter below the ground surface.
This is another engineering landmark for DMRC as this part of West Delhi is heavily congested and a lot of utility diversions were made before this TBM drive. In this corridor, two tunnels for to and fro movements of trains will be made. This is the first completed tunnel.
DWARKA TO SERVE AS AN INTERCHANGE STATION
The total length of this standard gauge corridor is 4.4 kilometre of which 2.76 kilometre is elevated and 1.55 kilometre is underground. Najafgarh is the only underground station as two other stations of this corridor are Dwarka and Nangli, which are elevated. Dwarka will serve as an interchange station with this line.
