Brazil: Aneel to call for bids for 2 power plants this semester

The Brazilian national electrical energy agency Aneel will hardly achieve its goal of auctioning for the construction of 19 power plants this year. It will call for bids for 2 plants until the end of the 1st semester - the Ourinhos power plant in Sao Paulo (44 MW), which will demand investments of US$62.3mil, and the Bocaina one (150 MW) in the borderline between Minas Gerais and Goias. A third plant might also be included in this semester's auction - the Itumirim power plant in Goias, which will demand investments of US$86.4mil (55 MW). The 19 power plants previously scheduled by Aneel for this year would have an overall capacity of 3,765 MW and cost US$4.8bil. In 1998, Aneel auctioned for 8 power plants that will add 2,781 MW to the country's power generating capacity.
