Deesa: An unidentified SUV today allegedly tried to rashly overtake the official vehicle of the leader of opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela thrice near Sidhpur crossing in Patan district of north Gujarat while the former chief minister and senior congress leader was on his way to Deesa to attend a function.

Mr Vaghela, however, ruled out any possibility of it being any planned attack and said that it was seemingly a case of rash and careless driving by youths in the vehicle.

Media Coordinator of Mr. Vaghela, Mr. Nikhil Desai said that a complaint has been lodged with the Patan police in this regard. He said that the RTO registration number of the Mahindra Scorpio SUV which was GJ 1 R 9391 actually doesn’t look like a genuine number as per the initial inquiry.

‘It has given rise to the doubt that it may be a vehicle of either the illicit liquor dealers or of other such people involved in some kind of illegal activities,’ he said adding that the SUV later fled when Mr. Vaghela’s bodyguard stopped his vehicle.

Mr Vaghela later said that the vehicle tried to overtake his official Innova vehicle which has red beacon light over it thrice rashly. But it did not seem like any attempt of attack. There were two youths in the Scorpio and it seemed more of a rash, careless and somewhat daring driving case by the youths as there was a siren over his vehicle.

He later arrived in the function organized by the Lions club here and participated in it.

Police were investigating the matter.
